City of Sarnia Application for Election Workers


The City of Sarnia is looking for Election Workers to assist in the October municipal election at our Voter Help Centres.

The City of Sarnia has adopted internet and telephone voting for the municipal election. Eligible electors can vote using a telephone, computer, cell phone, iPad, tablet, or laptop. Those requiring assistance will be able to visit Sarnia City Hall Monday through Saturday during the voting period. Three additional Voter Help Centres will be open on Monday, October 22, the last day of voting.

Election Workers must attend both the in-person training session and work during the voting period to be eligible for compensation.

NOTE: Emails must be unique to the person, i.e. not sharing between spouses who are both applying to work the elections, and must be checked regularly as all communications regarding work assignments and training will be provided via email.

Position Requirements:

  • previous municipal election experience is preferred
  • computer/internet skills
  • be fluent in English
  • excellent customer service skills
  • be able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • must have use of a vehicle
  • be able to lift and carry items that weigh 30 lbs
  • be able to spend long durations sitting and/or standing
  • must be available to work a variety of hours during the voting period between Thursday, October 11 to Monday, October 22
  • must be available to attend a mandatory training session the week of October 1, 2018
  • the ability to remain on site at the voting location at all times; from the beginning of the shift, until the end of the shift.

Positions:

  • Greeter - $17.50 per hour

    • greet electors upon arrival at the voting location
    • direct voters to the appropriate location within the Voter Help Centre
    • direct voters to the appropriate election staff if they require that their name be added to the Voters’ List
    • answer a wide range of questions from voters
    • assist any electors who may require assistance
  • Election Assistant - $20 per hour

    • assist with the timely setup and closing of the Voter Help Centre;
    • assist the Election Official with providing eligible voters with electronic devices;
    • assist the Election Official in maintaining the Voter's List;
    • accompany the Election Official in returning the paperwork to City Hall at the end of the Voting Day.
  • Election Official - $25 per hour

    • assist with the timely setup and closing of the Voter Help Centre;
    • administering oaths as required;
    • providing eligible voters with electronic devices;
    • maintaining the Voter's List;
    • complete and return necessary paperwork to City Hall at the end of the Voting Day.
