The City of Delta is hiring for a variety of positions for the 2022 General Local Elections.  If you are interested in working on General Voting Day (Saturday, October 15, 2022) or on advance voting days (October 1, 5, and 6, 2022), please refer to the job descriptions and employment requirements below.


Election job descriptions

Applications will be accepted for three positions:

Presiding Election Official (PEO) 

The PEO is responsible for the overall conduct of the voting place, including supervising all Election Officials. The PEO is responsible for the set-up and clean-up of the voting place. The PEO is appointed by the Chief Election Officer. (Base Rate of Pay: $400 per day)

Alternate Presiding Election Official (APEO)

The APEO directly assists the PEO in the management of the overall conduct of the voting place. The APEO is responsible for overseeing voter registration at the voting place and substituting for the PEO as required. The APEO is appointed by the Chief Election Officer. (Base Rate of Pay: $340 per day)

Election Official (EO)

here are four types of EO roles:

  •   Registration Clerk – Responsible for assisting new electors that are not registered to vote. Appointed by the Presiding Election Official.
  •   List Clerk – Responsible for confirming the registration of an elector.
  •   Machine Attendant – Responsible for the function of the vote counting machine and sanitizing high-touch surfaces.
  •  Roving Sanitizer Responsible for sanitizing high-touch surfaces.

EOs are appointed by the PEO. (Base Rate of Pay: $260 per day)

Who can apply?

Election Officials for the 2022 General Local Elections must:

  • be legally entitled to work in British Columbia;
  • be 18 years of age or older;
  • not be and not become a candidate, candidate representative or financial agent in the 2022 General Local Elections;
  • be fully vaccinated against COVID-19*;
  • be able to attend and complete mandatory training sessions;
  • be fluent in English (other languages an asset); and
  • be able to pass a Police Information Check.


*The City of Delta will evaluate and accommodate those who are unable to be vaccinated against COVID-19 either through medical or human rights exemptions.
